How to improve your listening skills?

Many English language learners have difficulties in understanding native English speakers. There is a difference between real English and the English in classrooms and textbooks.

Keep On Listening

1. To improve your listening you have to spend a lot of time listening to people speaking English. According to your interest, you may choose what to listen to.

You can listen to news about fashion, Hollywood stars, crime, sports or even politics. You can also listen to TV show, movies, radio programs or podcasts.

Once you have chosen something that you are truly interested in, you'll never get bored.

2. Don't just listen to the same kind of English! Expose yourself to a variety of topics or even accents.

3. Do not occupy yourself with reading subtitles in your mother tongue language because it keeps your brain locked into "native language mode".

4. English subtitles are a better choice. They assist you to match the words that you know with their correct pronunciations.
